Elgin Public Museum in Lords Park will hold a “Remembrance Tea” to honor late 27-year volunteer educator Marge Fox from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28.
Known as Miss Marge, Fox was still leading educational programs until a month before her death in December at age 89, officials said. She began volunteering at the museum after retiring from teaching.
She also led summer educational sessions at Lords Park Zoo in Elgin and did volunteer work with the American Association of University Women, Friends of Judson University, YWCA Elgin and Morton Arboretum. She enjoyed travel and visited every continent, but for Antarctica.

Dundee Township Park District’s Rakow Regatta, a cardboard boat race, will be held from 1:30 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, in the indoor pool of the Rakow Center, 665 Barrington Ave., Carpentersville.
Contestants are required to design and build cardboard boats capable of racing 50 yards and must be powered by paddles or muscle, according to event rules.
Registration closes Friday, Feb. 10, after which contestants will receive a list of rules and accepted materials. Open swim will follow the races.
Registration is $5 for Dundee Township residents and $7 for nonresidents.

Applications are now available people and groups that want to participate in the Thom McNamee Memorial St. Patrick’s Day Parade, the annual Parade Your Pet pet parade and the DUblinDEE 5K Kilted Run and Walk, all being held Saturday, March 11, in East Dundee.
The race and walk will begin at 8 a.m. outside Lifeline Plumbing, Heating & Cooling, 296 Williams Place, followed by the pet parade at 10 a.m. outside The Depot, 319 N. River St. The parade steps off at 11 a.m. near Rosie O’Hare’s Public House, 702 Water St., and makes its way to Bandito Barney’s Beach Club, 10 N. River St.
Proceeds from the three events will benefit F.I.S.H Food Pantry, D300 Food Pantry, The Friends of the Fox River and STEM scholarship programs for local students. For more information, go to dundeestpats.org.
The Elgin Cultural Arts Commission is hosting an online screening and discussion of the short, experimental film “Essential Voyage: Indigenous Wisdom Will Save Us All,” from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 22, via Zoom.
The film visualizes ways that humans and other beings are communicating with each other to protect the planet, “Essential Voyage” filmmaker Hallie Morrisson says on her website.

A public workshop on the North Grove Avenue Redevelopment Area will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, at The Centre of Elgin, 100 Symphony Way.
Elgin staff and its consultant team will discuss plans for the area and seek input from residents about what uses they would like to see the city-owned property used for and how it should be developed.

Elgin resident Elisa Lara has been appointed to the Gail Borden Public Library District Board of Trustees to complete the four months remaining to the term of John Kokoris, who recently resigned.
Lara is a community outreach nurse for VNA Health Care and a member of the Elgin Hispanic Network, the City of Elgin Human Relations Commission and the Latino Treatment Center Board, a news release said. She has served on the Coalition of Safe and Healthy Elgin Board.
A graduate of District U-46 schools, she has a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Northern Illinois University.
