United Church of Los Alamos News:
Local volunteers gathered Dec. 10 at the United Church of Los Alamos and packed 217 colorful homemade fabric bags with toys for immigrant children in Ciudad Juarez to be distributed to facilities that house immigrants waiting for their asylum hearings.
These are mainly immigrants from Central America seeking asylum in the U.S. because of life threatening conditions in their homeland. Among the asylum seekers in Juarez are many nationalities including those fleeing the Ukraine.
The bags for the Dignity Mission were then taken to Placitas for transport to Ciudad Juarez by other church volunteers.
The church received photos sent from Juarez of the children receiving the bags filled with toys, treats and necessities. It is not often that feedback is received so quickly, if at all, to the faithful.
“We joyfully share these photos with our community here in Los Alamos as a Christmastide blessing. Thank you!” Georgia Strickfaden said.
