On Dec. 16 at 6 p.m., the Roberts Family Development Center will be hosting an informational meeting about becoming an adult mentor to serve as a volunteer role model for students in elementary, middle, and high school. The meeting will be held at 770 Darina Ave., Sacramento, CA 95815.
Mentors are expected to provide consistent attention; support learning achievement; improve school attendance; build self respect and confidence; offer growth opportunities; care; and prepare youth for the future.
Mentors are required to be a positive role model; provide advice, nurture life skills, and offer friendship; be screened and attend training; meet with mentees regularly over a school year; promote personal and learning growth; have four monthly contacts; and have lunch visits, home visits, and phone calls.
