Once again, One on One Fitness Center raised north of $30,000 last year to benefit a pair of local nonprofit organizations.

The health and fitness center, located at 424 W. Aaron Dr. in State College, collected and donated $30,170 through its 2022 “Give Back” initiative, according to a press release this week. The raised funds will benefit the gym’s two chosen charities, the Centre County Youth Service Bureau and Centre Volunteers in Medicine.

“I would like to thank all those who have participated in our ‘Give Back’ initiative,” Bruce Burke, One on One’s founder, said in a statement. “We started the program to leverage our charitable giving; to spend one dollar to raise two, but it has become so much more. We have enjoyed more inspiration from our staff, clients and community than we ever could have imagined.”

One on One’s “Give Back” initiative is bolstered by special events and direct donations throughout each year. The center’s clients are also able to pay for certain services by making a donation to either the Centre County Youth Service Bureau or Centre Volunteers in Medicine.

Since its start in 2009, the “Give Back” initiative has raised $532,585 for local charities, according to One on One.

In a statement, Centre Volunteers in Medicine said One on One’s charity initiative has greatly supported the nonprofit’s work to provide health care services to Centre County residents.

“We are honored to be a beneficiary of One on One’s Give Back program,” Cheryl White, executive director of Centre Volunteers in Medicine, said.  “This unique form of giving helps us provide much-needed healthcare to low-income, underserved individuals who live or work in Centre County. A half-million dollars raised is a remarkable milestone! We encourage all local businesses to follow One on One’s lead and help the charity of their choice.”

Christine Bishop, the chief executive officer of the Centre County Youth Service Bureau, said One on One’s charity campaign bolsters the bureau’s services while serving as a lasting example of critical community support.

“Having the support of One on One has meant so much to us here at YSB,” Bishop said in a statement. “It has allowed us to keep our services running during a time when local kids and families have reached out to us more than ever before. Beyond the financial support, we are grateful to know that so many people in our community value what we’re doing and want to give back. I would like to thank the Burke family for leading by example and creating opportunities for others to join them.”

Since 1986, One on One has worked to support community health through weight-loss programs, nutrition planning, personal training and more. Visit the center’s website or call (814) 234-1625 to learn more about its current services.

Centre Volunteers in Medicine, meanwhile, has worked since 2003 to provide free medical care and health-related service to low-income, uninsured individuals who live or work in Centre County. Later this year, the free clinic is expected to open a new headquarters in Ferguson Township that will expand its services.

The Centre County Youth Service Bureau support local children and youth through several overarching services, including drug and alcohol prevention, parenting and family support, shelters and independent living assistance and Big Brothers Big Sisters. Visit the bureau’s website for more information.
