The Queanbeyan Multicultural festival has quickly become synonymous with a beautiful celebration of the diversity of community that lives within the ACT. And now it’s expanding its reach to Bungendore. Did someone say day trip?
The festival will come to life in Bungendore on Sunday 5 February, bringing with it history, rich cultural experiences and captivating dance. It’s also the perfect excuse to indulge in endless tastings of delicious food from around the world—yes, we will take all of the dumplings, please!
This eagerly embraced expansion is all thanks to the Reconnecting Regional NSW grant, tethering the spirit of community and culture beyond the borders of Queanbeyan. For Mayor Kenrick Winchester, it marks an exciting transition for this much-loved festival.
“We are excited to be holding two events this year to celebrate our vibrant multicultural community,” he says.
‘The Queanbeyan festival is one of our most popular events. Hopefully, its reputation as a great family event will also attract people from around the region and from all backgrounds to the new event in Bungendore.”
And while the legacy of this festival almost guarantees its success, Mayor Kenrich says the close ties of the Bungendore community will be vital in anchoring the festival into its new home.
“Bungendore has a really tight-knit community, and our events team is working closely with local groups out there to make this event a winner.”
But perhaps the best part of this new grant is that after we have rested, recovered and slept off our food coma, we can put back on our dancing shoes and make our for Queanbeyan’s Mutilncultral festival on Sunday 5 March. Yes, just one month later you can expect just as much colour, music, tantalising stalls, and the ability to travel across the globe—no passport needed. An inspiring nod to what can happen when we connect and embrace the spirit of community.
Such is the power of this festival that shows no signs of slowing down (or getting smaller) anytime soon—something we are certainly not mad about! See you in the food line?
